Geert Lovink (Institute for Network Cultures) and Jonathan Beller (Pratt Institute) with Akseli Virtanen (Economic Space Agency)

From social media to economic media? Social media horizontalized our communication, but left the information & protocol layer called the economy untouched. If the social network has come to its end as a viable organizational model, could the next step involve decentralizing the tools and means of financial expression? Using finance to create different socialities?

SUNDAY 20 SEPTEMBER

11:00-12:00  WHAT COMES AFTER DECENTRALIZED FINANCE?
Dick Bryan (University of Sydney) with Akseli Virtanen (Economic Space Agency)

‘DeFi’, the hot topic in the cryptospace, seems to reproduce many techniques of conventional finance and capitalist organizations in clever decentralized forms, but could DeFi be used also to create different socialities? As financial technologies become programmable and available, could we use DeFi to invent non-exploitative forms of production and risking-together?

13:00-16:00  MONEYLAB OPEN MIKE
MoneyLab Helsinki team with guests

17:00-19:00  EXPERIMENTS IN GOVERNANCE

What have we learned from the rise and fall of platform co-operatives, first generations of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) and other recent experiments in governance? Could we think governance as a game or as a grammar? Governance as a place of creation and play?
